Don’t be discouraged by what you read in the UK press. These stories are often exaggerated reports of the truth and relating to very isolated events. Life in Spain continues to be sweet. The sun is still shining, the scenery is still beautiful, the amenities are excellent and constantly improving and the locals (Spanish and ex-pats alike) continue to smile.
The cost of living might have risen very slightly in Spain, but compared to the UK it is negligible. Here in Spain we are not told how much rubbish we can dispose of every week, nor do we have crippling Council Tax and it is safe for children and the elderly to walk in the streets. Food and leisure is still relatively cheap. Education is good, with a choice of popular local Spanish state schools, offering free education and also a selection of International fee paying schools offering the English Curriculum.
Local amenities are good, with an ample selection of supermarkets, pharmacies, doctors surgeries, good hospitals, garden centres, homeware shops, ironmongers, quaint pavement cafes, and of course the vibrant local markets (one day a week in each of the towns).
Yes, the rate of the Pound to the Euro has had an effect on property prices for those leaving the UK for a move to Spain, but the market is reflecting this and compensating accordingly. Property prices have already come down by 10-20% and many desperate vendors are still open to offers up to a further 10-15% on the new lower asking prices. Also, of course, those vendors returning to the UK are going to have more flexibility in negotiation because they stand to gain by the falling Pound and the poor property market in England.

Once you have found your ideal property, Villa Bureau will ensure you avoid the pitfalls which can be associated with buying abroad. These are 100% avoidable with the right legal advice. We can introduce you to reputable Spanish Lawyers, who will communicate with you in English and ensure that your property is free of debts and encumbrances, and that no plans are afoot for any building works which could lead to the famous “land grab” problems. These, by the way, are few and far between, but as the press only like bad news, the few occasions are inflated to make the English believe it is common place.
This part of the Northern Costa Blanca also has NO WATER PROBLEMS. Villa Bureau cover the area from Denia to Calpe/Altea and inland through the Jalon Valley to the Orba Valley and its surrounding villages. All these towns and villages now have drinking water on tap and no water restrictions.
